ABOUT Margaret

Margaret Ford is a landscape painter living in Portland, Maine. She earned a BA in art and psychology from Hiram College, but didn’t pursue painting until years later when she ventured out to join visiting family on a plein air outing. Margaret now paints with oil, and prefers to paint on location whenever possible. Margaret has benefited from instruction from artists such as Colin Page, Ken DeWaard, Eric Jacobson and faculty at Maine College of Art and Design.

“I love the Maine landscape and painting on location. I am interested in how light and color describe the mood and impact of a setting. Choosing to paint on location helps provide a sense of immediacy in each painting, which is difficult to achieve working in a studio.  I strive to create work that is representational, yet allows the viewer to explore the inter-relationship between color, form and values.”
